Graduate Hourly - The Illinois Prevention Research Center (closes 5/6!)

Who: UIC Institute for Health Research and Policy / The Illinois Prevention Research Center

What: The Illinois Prevention Research Center seeks a Graduate Hourly with strong writing skills to support communications about federally funded public health research. We're looking for someone with a warm and professional writing voice who is curious about the intersection of media and public health. This position will be an excellent introduction to both the academic research environment and professional health communications. This is an hourly position for 10 to 20 hours per week.

The successful candidate will execute an established communications strategy, curating content and writing messages for Twitter and Facebook; maintain and update a WordPress website; write monthly/biweekly newsletter; track audience benchmarks (Web traffic and social interaction); and contribute to blogs.
Qualifications:
  • Strong writing and editing skills, with a clear, engaging style 
  • Social media experience in the workplace 
  • Ability to work independently, handle several priorities at once and see projects to completion 
  • Strong interest in using social media to improve public health and reduce health disparities 
 Strongly preferred:
  • Journalism training or experience writing for the public 
  • Knowledge of AP Style guidelines 
  • Understanding of social or health science research methods 
  • Experience managing a website or blog using WordPress or other content management system
  • Familiarity with social media management tools, such as Tweetdeck, or SproutSocial 
  • Experience with MailChimp or other email platform 
  • Experience with social media analytics and key performance indicators
