Graduate Hourly Assistant - Institute for Health Research and Policy (closes 6/14)

Who: Institute for Health Research and Policy at the University of Illinois at Chicago

What: The Institute for Health Research and Policy at the University of Illinois at Chicago is hiring a Graduate Hourly Research Assistant for the summer of 2019 with the possibility of extension. The position requires the ability to work at a computer for extended periods of time and the ability to commit to a minimum of 10 hours per week during normal business hours. The appropriate candidate will conduct literature and media searches around beverage taxation. Interested candidates should have familiarity and experience with search engines, literature databases (e.g., ProQuest), and software such as Microsoft Office and EndNote. Ideally, candidates will be organized, have high attention to detail, and possess good time management skills.

In this position, you will:


  • Identify and employ searches through various media sources (e.g., News Bank, News Maps) 
  • Identify and employ searches in literature databases that house media sources (e.g., ProQuest) 
  • Download, sort, and systematically format products Enter/upload articles into EndNote and Atlas for coding

Qualifications:

  • Currently enrolled in a Master’s program (preferably in Public Health or related field) 
  • Ability to follow directions and complete task with minimal oversight 
  • Very strong organizational skills; 
  • High attention to detail; Strong computer literacy in Word, Excel, Internet; 
  • Experience conducting systematic searches using the UIC library databases and downloading materials from the databases

Desired qualifications:

  • Previous knowledge of beverage taxation 
  • Knowledge of various types of media sources (news stories, blogs, etc.) 
  • Familiarity with EndNote and Atlas.ti (or other qualitative software) 
  • Available to work Monday/Wednesday or Tuesday/Thursday (5 hours each day)
