Graduate Hourly, Student and Diversity Affairs - UIC College of Dentistry

College of Dentistry is looking for graduate hourly to assist with activities in the Office Student and Diversity Affairs.  Under general supervision of a staff or faculty member, the graduate hourly will perform all or part of the following duties:

Graduate Assistant - Advancing Racial Equity (ARE) Initiative, Office of Student Affairs

This graduate assistantship will be from September 2023 to May 2023 with tuition (excluding differentials) & selected fee waiver eligibility and stipend. 20 hours/ per week.

Graduate Assistant - UIC Department of Criminology, Law, and Justice

GA to support Associate Head (25%)/DGS (25%): This position will provide general administrative support to the AH/DGS, including helping to develop policies and procedures manuals and coordinating programming. Tasks include but are not limited to: Curate and distribute bi-weekly department newsletters. Monitor printer usage. Help coordinate furniture surplus moving and disposal. Help manage graduate/alumni listserv. Collect and document office keys for Graduate students. Build out instructions for incoming GA. Coordinate, attend, and take notes for relevant department committees. Administrative tasks in the office as needed. Provide administrative support for Graduate Coordinator. Creating doodle polls, making schedules, creating flyers (including recruitment flyers), coordinating on various projects and events, replying to admission questions from prospective students, drafting templates for the various projects, and helping create various spreadsheets as needed. Provide additional office support while in the office/ as needed.

Graduate Assistant Position: Academic Year 23-24 - Academic Professional Advisory Committee

Job Description: Provide administrative support to the Academic Professional Advisory Committee (APAC)

Overview: The mission of the committee is to provide for the orderly voicing of suggestions for the good the University, afford added recourse for the consideration of grievances, and furnish a channel for direct and concerted communication between the Academic Professional (AP) staff and the administrative officers of the University, its colleges, schools, institutes, divisions, and other administrative units on matters of interest or concern to the Academic Professional staff or any member of it.

The appointment period is August 16, 2023 to May 15, 2024. This 25% graduate assistantship is ten hours a week and qualifies for tuition and partial fee waiver as long as the conditions for the waiver are met and your program is eligible for waivers. The 2023-2024 monthly stipend is $1,302.22. Most of the duties can be fulfilled remotely. Attendance at face-to-face meetings or events, if applicable, may be required.

Position Roles:  

  • Support the work of various committee(s) related to early childhood workforce development, including organizing meetings, preparing agendas, taking notes, conducting background research, analyzing data, and in partnership with key stakeholders, staff, and faculty developing program and policy recommendations. 
    • Support roll-out of the Illinois Early Childhood Apprenticeship Program (IECAP) pilot.
    • Conceptualize, write, and disseminate a variety of materials including policy analyses, policy briefs, articles and other documents. Collaborate with other staff and/or partner organizations to draft and produce high quality documents that meet the needs of a variety of different audiences.

Graduate Assistant - UIC Women's Leadership and Resource Center (WLRC)

Graduate Assistantship (2022-2023Academic Year)

The UIC Women’s Leadership and Resource Center (WLRC),seeks a UIC graduate student to provide programmatic and organizational support for the 2022-2032 academic year. This position is offered at 0.25 FTE and includes a tuition waiver.

Job Duties 

•Help develop and implement the center’s programs and events, including, but not limited to, student leadership development programs, lecture and film series, workshops and trainings, and awareness month events. 

•Work with staff to research and develop program, training, and resource materials; raise awareness of the center; and shape and implement new initiatives. 

•Daily administrative tasks may include answering phones; preparing for and staffing programs/events onsite and online; communication; event promotion; and managing programming space and data (registration lists, photos, videos).

•Participate in biweekly (once every two weeks) staff team meetings and weekly one-on-one meetings with supervisor. 

Reporting Structure 

The Graduate Assistant will report to the Associate Director, with the opportunity to work with various professional and student staff members on different projects. 

Qualifications 

Ideal candidates must be in good academic standing and 

•Have background, knowledge, and experience with feminist approaches to social policy, social justice, and building inclusive communities and organizations. 

•Have experience or interest in working in higher education contexts, particularly with campus-based programs or units that engage diverse constituencies (e.g., students of color, LGBTQ students, students with disabilities, parents, undocumented students, etc.). 

•Have research experience, including drafting reports and developing resource materials, and/or experience with teaching, curriculum development, and facilitation. 

•Be interested in building the capacity of this campus-based feminist center to contribute to a more equitable and inclusive university community. 

Hours/Days

10hours per week. May work partially remote and partially onsite, depending on both the student’s and department’s needs (can be discussed during interview).

Requirements:

• must be a full time CUPPA graduate student at least through May 2023 or December 2023.

• must demonstrate professional writing and editing skills, be able to prioritize assignments appropriately, and be self-directed.  

• photography and video experience desired.  Must be experienced in both Mac and Windows environments.  Communication, marketing, English or related undergrad degree desired.

• must be very familiar with the multitude of social media vehicles (especially Facebook, Instagram, LinkedIn, YouTube, Blogspot, etc) web content management systems (ideally WordPress), MSOffice, and graphic and video related software. 

• must HAPPILY engage in other duties as assigned including contributing to public affairs, communication, and special events, and general office tasks within the Dean’s Office.

• must be an organized, creative, critical thinker, in addition to being enrolled as a CUPPA grad student full-time through May 2023 or December 2023.


Primary duties for the Urban Forum may include: 

• assist on writing, planning, preparation, and implementation of the UIC Urban Forum.

• staff all meetings prior to and following the forum.

• attend the forum.

• assist staff on note-taking and summaries of all sessions at the forum.

• correspond with authors and presenters related to the forum and maintain various records.

• assist on forum communication materials under strict deadlines.

• assist with editing and writing contributions to the forum manuscript under the supervision of the Dean and published by the University of Illinois Press.

• other duties as assigned.

What: The Office for Research on Student Success is looking for a 50% Research Assistant starting in August, 2020. The RA will work on undergraduate education research and evaluation projects with the aim of increasing undergraduate student retention and graduation.

Duties: The ideal candidate will have quantitative and qualitative research, assessment/evaluation, and IRB experience, as well as excellent writing skills, good organizational skills, office skills, and content knowledge in higher education, developmental/community/educational psychology, and/or student success. Graduate Assistantship - UIC Asian American Resource and Cultural Center

Who: The Asian American Resource and Cultural Center (AARCC) - Asian American Mentor Program

What: 25% time Graduate Assistantship (G.A.) for the Summer, Fall, and Spring semesters 2019-2020. The stipend will be for 10 hours per week, and the position includes an assistantship tuition and partial fees waiver. Most hours will need to be in the morning and afternoon, with rare early evening hours.

The AARCC Graduate Assistantship will be assigned to work with the Asian American Mentor Program (AAMP), a peer mentor program. The G.A. will assist the AARCC Associate Director in supervising the 24-30 Peer Mentors in working with 60 or more first- year or transfer Asian American students at UIC. The G.A. will also coordinate workshops, assist in leading a Global Asian Studies course. They will also be creating events for AAMP starting in summer for Summer College and assist with recruiting incoming 1st year and transfer students to the program for the Fall. Additional responsibilities will include assisting the AARCC staff with other programs related to Asian American students.

Graduate Assistant - Office of Budget and Financial Analysis

Who: UIC Office of Budget and Financial Analysis

What: This position will provide direct support to the Budget and Financial Modeling functional team within the Office of Budget and Financial Analysis.
Primary duties of the position include:



Reporting - Run monthly data reports related to such university operations as financial aid and student fees.  Verify report accuracy and coordinate distribution to appropriate stakeholders.





Support Annual Budget Meeting Process – All university college level organizations participate in an annual budget review process to assess financial performance.  This position will provide direct administrative support to include printing/collating materials packets, assisting in reviewing of materials for accuracy, and providing direct assistance to BFA analysts in materials development.




Process Budget Allocations/MOUs – Assist Budget and Financial Modeling team analysts with the preparation of budget allocation letters, and drafting of memorandums of understanding between Campus higher administration and various university units.  Provide assistance with maintaining the MOU and commitments database to ensure accuracy of reported commitments.





Analysis – Provide direct assistance to Budget and Financial Modeling team analysts with various aspects of ad hoc financial analyses as requested.  Analysis may include such aspects of university business as tuition projection and reconciliation, operating budgets, etc.

What: FAST administers Adult Education and Career Transition services in high need areas in Chicago. The Center is seeking a graduate student to teach at two sites adult learners in the community (off campus) on the Southwest side of Chicago. Duties and responsibilities include:

Graduate Research Assistant - UIC Library - Special Collections and University Archives

Who: UIC Library, Special Collections and University Archives Department

What: Fall 2018, 50% Graduate assistantship. The Graduate Research Assistant assists in researching, processing, describing, preserving and ensuring access for personal papers, organizational records, and photographic collections in the Special Collections Department. Responsibilities include:
  • Assist in the arrangement and description of archival collections for the Special Collections Department. Describing collections requires research, organizational, and writing skills. 
  • Maintain collection data in the department’s content management system. 
  • Create metadata for digitization projects. 
  • Assist in implementing educational and promotional events and programs, and other activities related to the organization and preservation of the department’s manuscript collections. 
  • May have the opportunity to contribute to the exhibition program through research, writing and design of interpretive digital and physical exhibits. 
  • May contribute to writing grant proposals. 
  • Folder labeling, archival rehousing as necessary, and other clerical tasks as assigned.
