Research Assistant Position - Professor Renee Hatcher

Short Description of Position and Research Topic: 

Professor Hatcher is seeking a research assistant to work on a project (an academic law review article) related to topics solidarity economy, law and political economy, and regulatory regimes. Specifically, the selected research assistant will perform legal research, write summaries, and footnote and cite check a draft article on topics related to race, worker cooperatives, corporations, business associations, and organizational governance. Prof. Hatcher will meet with the selected student every other week to assess progress and provide additional guidance and direction for the project. The total anticipated number of student hours is 125 hours over the course of the project.

Interested students should submit application via email directly to Prof. Hatcher before the deadline of December 1, 2023. Professor Hatcher will review the applications and interview at least three students for the position. Law students of color and students from historically underrepresented communities are encouraged to apply.

Research Assistantship - Great Lakes Center for Farmworker Health and Wellbeing

About the center: The Great Lakes Center for Farmworker Health and Wellbeing (GLCFHW)
is one of twelve NIOSH Centers for Agricultural Safety and Health that are funded to conduct
occupational disease and injury prevention research, develop and implement educational
programs and interventions, and connect with governmental and nongovernmental agencies to
improve conditions surrounding agricultural health and safety. A main focus of the center is
working with farmworkers, many of whom are Spanish-speaking and born in Mexico and
Central America.

Opportunity: The Center is hiring one graduate level Research Assistant to assist with
outreach. Commitment is 10 hrs/week and will come with tuition remission for the Fall 2023
semester.

Reports to: Deputy Director, Gabriela Gracia.

Graduate Research Assistant – Data Analytics / Records Management Specialist

Fall 2022

 

Office of Planning, Sustainability & Project Management is seeking a Graduate Research Assistant with prior experience in data analytics technologies. Data management in the context of records management experience, web design experience and graphic design skills are a plus.

 

Responsibilities:

  • Assist in implementation of Meridian document/record management software (create and organize file metadata, upload files onto Meridian and review records for consistency, etc.)
  • Update departmental SharePoint archives with facility, business, and risk management records and information
  • Collaborate with PSPM leadership to develop a department-wide records disposal process in accordance with the University’s official record retention policies
  • Maintain PSPM’s website and update PSPM’s internal intranet site with valuable news and information
  • Develop, analyze, and visualize relevant departmental KPIs/metrics
  • Help facilitate space studies and compile reports and surveys associated with teaching, research, public service and administrative functions
  • Assist in other tasks such as printing, plotting, scanning and binding drawings and documents as requested, locating drawings in the digital archives and flat files for contractors and staff members, performing space audits as well as assisting other staff members and initiatives on as-needed basis.

 

Desired qualifications:

  • Proficiency in coding and programming; classroom programming experience required
  • Experience with SharePoint, PowerBI, and Macros
  • Web design experience a plus
  • Visualization Tool experience such as Power BI, Tableau, or Qlik
  • Proficient in Adobe Acrobat, Microsoft Excel, Outlook, Word, and Powerpoint
  • InDesign, Photoshop, Illustrator, AutoCAD experience a plus
  • Capable of incorporating feedback and direction quickly and efficiently
  • Highly organized and extremely detail-oriented
  • Fluent in English (speaking and writing)
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills

Graduate Research Assistantship, UIC Center for Clinical and Translational Science

Job Summary


The Community Engagement and Collaboration (CEC) Core within UIC’s Center for Clinical and Translational Science is seeking candidates for a graduate research assistantship (GRA) position. The GRA will provide research support to our ongoing collaboration with community partners and consultation services, present at trainings, workshops, and webinars, and assist with the Community Engagement Advisory Board. They will also provide research support examining community members’ perspectives on community-engaged research. This is a 67% FTE position. 

This position qualifies for waiver tuition and it has the potential of being extended for a total of one year.

Community Engagement and Collaboration (CEC) Mission


The mission of the Center for Clinical & Translational Science (CCTS) Community Engagement and Collaboration Core (CEC) is to support UIC researchers to promote successful and equitable university-community-policy partnerships focused on dissemination and implementation of evidence-based health programs and services. Drawing on theories of organizational and community context to promote effective and sustainable health policies and practices, we target our programs and services to UIC research investigators, educational & community organizations, and key policy stakeholders to improve the health of the community, with a special focus on effective health services for urban youth.  Members of the CEC team participate in ongoing collaboration with community partners (e.g., Chicago Department of Public Health, NAMI Chicago, Circuit Court of Chicago Restorative Justice Community Court) and other local university CCTS hubs to promote innovative community-engaged science in the Chicagoland area.  


Key Responsibilities


  • Assist the CEC team with developing and implementing a qualitative evaluation design, including coding and theme development. 

  • Assist with literature reviews by accessing PsycINFO, ERIC, government and other online databases to identify relevant research.

  • Prepare statistical data and pertinent information for papers, reports, and other documents. 

  • Participate in internal and external (partner) meetings and activities.

  • Prepare reports regarding progress of CEC core goals. 

  • Support activities related to the Department of Justice Grant with NAMI Chicago and Chicago Police Department.  This grant funds a capacity-building program to  serve people living with mental health conditions and/or substance use disorders.  Activities involve collaborating with partner organization in developing evaluation goals, and evaluating program implementation 


Qualifications


  • Candidates must be a graduate level student in good standing.

  • A minimum of a Bachelor’s degree in mental health, psychology, social work, social science, or a related field required. Master’s degree is preferred.

  • A minimum of one year related research experience.

  • Knowledge of research concepts, practices and procedures in both qualitative and quantitative methods. 

  • Ability to manage multiple tasks.

  • Strong interpersonal and customer service skills. Requires excellent communication, organization, presentation and computer/pc skills.

Graduate Research Assistantship (ESL Instructor) - UIC Center for Literacy

Who: The UIC Center for Literacy - FAmily STart (FAST) Learning and Support program

What: FAST administers Adult Education and Career Transition services in high need areas in Chicago. The Center is seeking a graduate student to teach at two sites adult learners in the community (off campus) on the Southwest side of Chicago. Duties and responsibilities include:
