King W. Harris Summer Internship - Metropolitan Planning Council (Chicago)

MPC is seeking talented candidates for our King W. Harris Summer Internship, named in honor of MPC’s former Board Chair and current Senior Fellow for Housing.

What: The ideal candidate will have the research skills, relevant topical knowledge and organizational acumen to advance multiple MPC Housing and Community Development priorities. Summer Internship - The Impact Investment Company (Chicago)

What: The summer intern will assist with market- and need-based research support and should have writing, research, data presentation, excel and powerpoint skills to do so. The intern should also be interested in urban impact investment and development. The position is available 10 - 30 hours per week.

Operations Fellows Program - Port Authority of NY & NJ (CLOSES 4/1)

Who: The Port Authority of NY & NJ - The Port Authority’s Operations Fellows Program is an opportunity for passionate individuals to help shape the future our transportation network.

What: The Port Authority’s Operations Fellows program is a program designed to develop the next generation of operations management professionals. This full time two-year rotational program is designed for career-minded individuals with an interest in operations management, who aspire to manage people in the future. This rotational program is designed to provide candidates with exposure to a variety of functions that are at the heart of our operations. Fellows are assigned to one of our four main lines of business: Aviation, PATH, Port (Maritime) or Tunnels, Bridges and Terminals.

Fellows spend two years rotating within their assigned line department gaining on-the-job experience designed to build a strong foundation of management, adaptability, and knowledge of Port Authority operations. The breadth and depth of these experiences are critical in preparing participants to be future leaders within the Port Authority.

Internship - Enterprise Community Partners (CLOSES 3/26)

Who: Enterprise Community Partner’s Chicago office is committed to strengthening communities by ensuring that everyone can live in an affordable home connected to good schools, transit and health care. We do this through capital solutions, policies and programs. The Chicago market is one of Enterprise’s anchor offices and provides thought leadership in response to critical social issues.
Specifically, the Chicago office has identified four priority program areas. These are: equitable transit-oriented development, sustainability and resiliency, health and housing, and preservation of naturally occurring affordable housing. The internship will focus on one or more projects or support with grant management related to these four priority areas along with assisting in other office activities as needed.

What: This internship is an excellent opportunity for a student interested in gaining experience related to affordable housing and community development. The schedule is two to three day per week for approximately 14-20 hrs. per week. The tenure for this internship is from March 2019 through July 2019 with the opportunity to be extended beyond this timeframe. Pay range: $15 – $17/hour.
Job responsibilities include:
  • Researching public and private information resources 
  • Liaison with community partners, residents and other stakeholders
  • Providing logistical support to complete assigned tasks
  • Oral and written presentation of findings 

Teaching Assistant - ACCC Learning Technology Solutions (CLOSES 3/22)

Who: The mission of ACCC Learning Technology Solutions (LTS) is to empower faculty to design and deliver technology-enhanced education. LTS provides a number of services including professional development, course development, instructional technology support, and design services. In addition, we offer individual and group consultations on instructional design principles and the integration of technology into teaching.
LTS is looking for motivated, hard-working graduate students to provide multimedia production and tech support to UIC Faculty and Students.

What: The position is for 20 hours per week effective May 21, 2019 with potential for renewal on semester basis through graduation of the employee.

Graduate Hourly Position - UIC Energy Resources Center

Who: The UIC Energy Resources Center (ERC) leads the Illinois Monarch Project (IMP), a collaborative of multi-industry stakeholders working together to develop conservation strategies that help monarch butterflies thrive throughout Illinois and engage public and private landowners across urban and rural landscapes.

What: Looking for graduate student with strong writing skills to support the development of an Illinois statewide monarch butterfly conservation plan. Working closely with ERC staff, this position will facilitate the compilation of written strategies from the IMP technical steering committee and other stakeholders into a single, comprehensive, cohesive written plan that will serve the IMP for decades to come.

Who: The Chicago Metropolitan Agency for Planning (CMAP) is our region’s official comprehensive planning organization. The agency and its partners are implementing ON TO 2050, a new long-range comprehensive regional plan, to help the seven counties and 284 communities of northeastern Illinois address transportation, housing, economic development, open space, environmental, and other quality-of-life issues.

Cook County Summer Fellowship Program

Who: Cook County, Offices Under the President

What: The Cook County Government Fellowship is a 10 week summer internship opportunity in Chicago for graduate and or law students to develop leadership skills, create a civic network and have a lasting, positive impact on Cook County.

Under the guidance of a management-level program officer, the fellow completes impactful projects in one of the fellowship program areas within Offices Under the President including The President’s Office; The Bureau of Human Resources; The Bureau of Technology; The Bureau of Administration; The Bureau of Asset Management; The Bureau of Economic Development; The Bureau of Finance; The Offices of Human Rights and Ethics; The Justice Advisory Council; The County Auditor; The Secretary to the Board of Commissioners; The Office of Administrative Hearings; and The Law Office of the Public Defender. Assists with various projects and duties to gain first-hand governmental experience, leadership skills and a civic network. Participates in departmental and independent County learning activities and events. Completes a final presentation for the assigned project. Performs other duties as assigned. 

The position is full-time, 8:30am - 4:30pm at the Central-Chicago County Building at 118 N. Clark. Pay is $20/hour.

Internship - Teska Associates (Evanston)

Who: Teska Associates is a full-service planning firm with offices in Evanston and Plainfield. Teska is seeking individuals to join the firm in pursuing our mission of “Building Community, Creating Place”. For over forty years Teska has been inventing (and reinventing) ways to help our client communities and neighborhoods face today’s challenges and achieve tomorrow’s goals. Successful job candidates are expected to share our excitement for helping communities and our drive to meet client’s needs through many types of planning projects and services. The firm’s practice is focused around Chicago, Illinois, and the Midwest.

What: The intern's work tasks are as follows:
  • Working with other staff on client-based assignments including neighborhood, comprehensive and corridor plans 
  • Preparing documents and maps including graphics, text, and data analysis 
  • Layout of documents, presentation, exhibit boards, marketing materials, and interactive experiences for communities 
  • Attending and supporting meetings, workshops and events. 
  • Documenting existing conditions in the field. 

Graduate Assistantship - UIC Asian American Resource and Cultural Center

Who: The Asian American Resource and Cultural Center (AARCC) - Asian American Mentor Program

What: 25% time Graduate Assistantship (G.A.) for the Summer, Fall, and Spring semesters 2019-2020. The stipend will be for 10 hours per week, and the position includes an assistantship tuition and partial fees waiver. Most hours will need to be in the morning and afternoon, with rare early evening hours.

The AARCC Graduate Assistantship will be assigned to work with the Asian American Mentor Program (AAMP), a peer mentor program. The G.A. will assist the AARCC Associate Director in supervising the 24-30 Peer Mentors in working with 60 or more first- year or transfer Asian American students at UIC. The G.A. will also coordinate workshops, assist in leading a Global Asian Studies course. They will also be creating events for AAMP starting in summer for Summer College and assist with recruiting incoming 1st year and transfer students to the program for the Fall. Additional responsibilities will include assisting the AARCC staff with other programs related to Asian American students.

Community Development Internship - City of Lake Saint Louis

Who: City of Lake Saint Louis, Community Development Department

What: This is a temporary position with a maximum of 40 hours per week over a period of 10 weeks (400 hours total). Under general supervision, the selected candidate will be responsible for researching, compiling, interpreting, analyzing and organizing data to assist with zoning enforcement and long range planning functions.
