Planning and Development Intern - Village of Franklin Park

Who: The Village of Franklin Park, Illinois

What: The Village of Franklin Park located immediately northwest of the City of Chicago, seeks a Planning and Development Intern to undertake administration of the redevelopment of the Des Plaines River Trail and related planning and development projects in the Village. This position reports to the Director of Community Development and Zoning. The position will be full-time from June 1st to September 1st with potential for a part-time extension. The hourly wage for this position is $14 per hour.

Responsibility:
Responsibilities include administration and research related to the Des Plaines River Trail (DPRT) and various planning duties assigned by the Director of Community Development. Working with the DPRT Intergovernmental Coalition (a coalition made up of 6 communities that Include the Village of Franklin Park, Village of Rosemont, Village of Schiller Park, Village of Melrose Park, Village of River Grove and Village of River Forest), the selected individual will be responsible for the effort towards developing the DPRT through planning strategies, applying for grants, networking, pro-forma development and research.

Duties of the Position:
  • Administration for the DPRT project 
  • Field survey work, research and data collection for the DPRT project 
  • Attend meetings with DPRT Intergovernmental Coalition, Christopher Burke Engineering, Cook County Forest Preserves, and Active Transportation Alliance 
  • Other Planning duties as assigned

Graduate Research Assistant - UIC Office for Research on Student Success

Who: UIC, Office of the Vice Provost for Undergraduate Affairs and Academic Programs, Office for Research on Student Success

What: The Office for Research on Student Success is looking for a 50% Research Assistant starting August, 2019. The RA will work on undergraduate education research projects with the aim of increasing undergraduate student retention and graduation.

The ideal candidate will have quantitative research and IRB experience, as well as excellent writing skills, good organizational skills, office skills, and content knowledge in higher education, developmental/community/educational psychology, and/or student success. Data analytic skills is essential. Expertise with SPSS, Excel, and Word is required.

Graduate Hourly - The Illinois Prevention Research Center (closes 5/6!)

Who: UIC Institute for Health Research and Policy / The Illinois Prevention Research Center

What: The Illinois Prevention Research Center seeks a Graduate Hourly with strong writing skills to support communications about federally funded public health research. We're looking for someone with a warm and professional writing voice who is curious about the intersection of media and public health. This position will be an excellent introduction to both the academic research environment and professional health communications. This is an hourly position for 10 to 20 hours per week.

The successful candidate will execute an established communications strategy, curating content and writing messages for Twitter and Facebook; maintain and update a WordPress website; write monthly/biweekly newsletter; track audience benchmarks (Web traffic and social interaction); and contribute to blogs.

Summer Internship, Global Urbanization - OECD (Paris)

Who: The mission of the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) is to promote policies that will improve the economic and social well-being of people around the world. The OECD provides a forum in which governments can work together to share experiences and seek solutions to common problems. We work with governments to understand what drives economic, social and environmental change. We measure productivity and global flows of trade and investment. We analyse and compare data to predict future trends. We set international standards on a wide range of things, from agriculture and tax to the safety of chemicals.

What: The OECD’s Centre for Entrepreneurship, SMEs, Regions and Cities is hiring a summer intern to contribute to a research project on global urbanisation. The project aims at providing a comprehensive overview of global urbanisation since 1975 using a new and innovative dataset of all cities across the world. The selected candidate will support the work of a team of economists/policy analysts. In line with his/her qualifications, he/she will be expected to contribute to the project through:

  • Cleaning and processing data and developing indicators on urbanisation 
  • Collecting auxiliary data from varying sources 
  • Conducting econometric analyses describing the evolution of cities across the world over time 
  • Creating charts, figures and maps visualising the data 
  • Drafting short texts describing the results 
  • Preparing presentations, talking points and speeches describing the analyses 
  • Organising events related to the project
