Planning and Development Intern - Village of Franklin Park

Who: The Village of Franklin Park, Illinois

What: The Village of Franklin Park located immediately northwest of the City of Chicago, seeks a Planning and Development Intern to undertake administration of the redevelopment of the Des Plaines River Trail and related planning and development projects in the Village. This position reports to the Director of Community Development and Zoning. The position will be full-time from June 1st to September 1st with potential for a part-time extension. The hourly wage for this position is $14 per hour.

Responsibility:
Responsibilities include administration and research related to the Des Plaines River Trail (DPRT) and various planning duties assigned by the Director of Community Development. Working with the DPRT Intergovernmental Coalition (a coalition made up of 6 communities that Include the Village of Franklin Park, Village of Rosemont, Village of Schiller Park, Village of Melrose Park, Village of River Grove and Village of River Forest), the selected individual will be responsible for the effort towards developing the DPRT through planning strategies, applying for grants, networking, pro-forma development and research.

Duties of the Position:
  • Administration for the DPRT project 
  • Field survey work, research and data collection for the DPRT project 
  • Attend meetings with DPRT Intergovernmental Coalition, Christopher Burke Engineering, Cook County Forest Preserves, and Active Transportation Alliance 
  • Other Planning duties as assigned

Minimum Qualifications:
  • In process of obtaining a master’s degree from an accredited university in urban planning or a closely related field; and A bachelor’s degree from an accredited university in urban planning or a closely related field 
  • Strong writing skills with the ability to compose detailed technical reports 
  • Excellent oral communication and interpersonal skills 
  • Experience using basic computer software, including Microsoft Word and Excel Experience using the Adobe Creative Suite (InDesign, Illustrator and Photoshop)
Other Desired Qualifications:
Efficient research skills, including internet-based research
