Research Assistantship - Great Lakes Center for Farmworker Health and Wellbeing

About the center: The Great Lakes Center for Farmworker Health and Wellbeing (GLCFHW)
is one of twelve NIOSH Centers for Agricultural Safety and Health that are funded to conduct
occupational disease and injury prevention research, develop and implement educational
programs and interventions, and connect with governmental and nongovernmental agencies to
improve conditions surrounding agricultural health and safety. A main focus of the center is
working with farmworkers, many of whom are Spanish-speaking and born in Mexico and
Central America.

Opportunity: The Center is hiring one graduate level Research Assistant to assist with
outreach. Commitment is 10 hrs/week and will come with tuition remission for the Fall 2023
semester.

Reports to: Deputy Director, Gabriela Gracia.

Research Assistant - Greater Lawndale Healthy Work Project, UIC Center for Healthy Work

Background 

The Greater Lawndale Healthy Work (GLHW) project is nearly a decade-old community-based participatory research (CBPR) partnership between North and South Lawndale communities and the University of Illinois in Chicago. GLHW Project is a research project in the University of Illinois at Chicago Center for Healthy Work, a Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health Total Worker Health Center of Excellence (Grant: U19OH010154).

Water Sampling Technician - Grad Hourly, UIC School of Public Health

The Division of Environmental and Occupational Health Sciences is seeking students to fill our part time hourly Water Sampling Technician positions, duties are listed below:

Water sampling technicians will drive to approximately 5-6 beaches and collect water samples following a research protocol. Water samples will be collected and delivered to the UIC School of Public Health Water Microbiology Laboratory (2121 W. Taylor Street) for analysis. This will involve a total of 10-20 miles of driving per day. Technicians will begin work at approximately 5:30 AM (sunrise), and finish at approximately 8:00 AM. In addition to the hourly salary, water-sampling technicians will also be paid for miles driven at the UIC mileage rate ($0.655 per mile).

Occupational Health Internship Program - Association of Occupational and Health Clinics

Who: Association of Occupational and Health Clinics

What: The Occupational Health Internship Program (OHIP) is a national summer program dedicated to help students learn about the field of occupational safety and health (OSH) from those most at stake: working people. Since 2004, OHIP has played a key role in training, mentoring, and inspiring a new generation of OSH professionals to prevent job injury and disease through partnerships with worker and community-based organizations. A project of the Association of Occupational and Environmental Clinics (AOEC), OHIP has training sites across the country including: the San Francisco Bay Area, Los Angeles, Chicago, Boston, DC, and New York City. What: The Illinois Prevention Research Center seeks a Graduate Hourly with strong writing skills to support communications about federally funded public health research. We're looking for someone with a warm and professional writing voice who is curious about the intersection of media and public health. This position will be an excellent introduction to both the academic research environment and professional health communications. This is an hourly position for 10 to 20 hours per week.

The successful candidate will execute an established communications strategy, curating content and writing messages for Twitter and Facebook; maintain and update a WordPress website; write monthly/biweekly newsletter; track audience benchmarks (Web traffic and social interaction); and contribute to blogs.

Graduate Hourly, Community Outreach Intervention Projects - UIC School of Public Health

Who: Community Outreach Intervention Projects in the School of Public Health at the University of Illinois at Chicago

What: The hourly student employee will assist the investigator of an NIH-funded research program, which aims to understand the contextual risk factors for hepatitis C among young injection drug users. Work is starting immediately and hours/days are flexible. This is a multi-semester opportunity.
Responsibilities include:
  • Become proficient in the Alter-Ego study protocol including content, process (screening, consents, etc.), procedures, and data collection instruments 
  • Conduct research study activities and tasks as needed 
  • Conduct interviews and provide surveys for participants 
  • Explains survey objectives and procedures to interviewees, and interprets survey questions in order to assist participants to comprehend questions 
  • Verify information obtained is accurate 
  • Identifies and reports problems encountered in obtaining valid data to supervisor 
  • Manage data collection

Hourly Research Associate - UIC Institute for Health Research and Policy

Who: The Institute for Health Research and Policy at the University of Illinois at Chicago is conducting a multi-year project to examine the impact of public health policies on environmental factors and diet.

What: The Institute is seeking to hire eight Research Hourly-Research Associate I to collect observational data in three locations in the continental U.S. This temporary hourly position will include a week training and two weeks of data collection, May–June 2019. The position will pay an hourly rate of $23.63, without benefits. There is no guaranteed minimum number of hours per week. Research Associates will typically work 40 hours per week and will spend a majority of time collecting data in a variety of environments. Individuals will travel by plane and then rental car to various locations. Paid hotel accommodations will be booked for the duration of data collection and, in some cases, weekend stays will be required. In each community, individuals will be required to travel by car/on foot to conduct observational research.

Graduate Hourly - Illinois Prevention Research Center -UIC (Closes 8/3!)

Who: Illinois Prevention Research Center (PRC), supporting policy and environmental change. The Illinois PRC conducts research to promote health, especially behaviors that improve physical activity and nutrition or reduce tobacco use. We work with communities to increase physical activity by improving access to the built environment and use of neighborhood parks. We collaborate in national networks to identify gaps in research and develop innovative approaches to improving public health that can be shared broadly with public health partners.
