Research Assistant - UIC School of Public Health

Who: UIC School of Public Health

What: The School of Public Health at the University of Illinois at Chicago has an opening for a graduate student to serve as a Research Assistant to support a new multi-year grant funded by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention to study the adoption, implementation and impact of pedestrian-oriented zoning, including New Urbanist zoning, on community walkability, adult physical activity, and active travel-related outcomes.


Key Qualifications
  • 1st year MUPP student with a focus on physical planning/built environment issues
  • Coursework in urban planning, zoning/land use regulation, and/or the built environment
  • Excellent attention to detail
  • Ability to work independently
  • Excellent communication and organizational skills 
Desired Skills and/or Experience:
  • Experience/familiarity with zoning and land use regulations across jurisdictions or strong desire to study them
  • Experience with GIS software (i.e., ArcGIS) a plus but not required
  • Familiarity with REDCap, a plus
  • Strong skills in Microsoft Office Word, Excel and PowerPoint
Position Logistics
  • This assistantship includes a tuition and fee waiver but note that the waiver does not include tuition differential and selected fees (please see https://grad.uic.edu/assistantships/ for details).
  • This position will commence in January 2020 and will be renewable through at least Fall 2020 based on performance and funding availability.
  • Candidates must be available to work between 15-20 hours per week during regular business hours.
  • Work will be done onsite at the School of Public Health located at 1603 W. Taylor Street.
