The Dunn Fellowship Program provides bright, highly motivated college graduates a unique opportunity to experience firsthand the operations of state government for one year.

Dunn Fellows are recruited from public and private colleges and universities throughout the nation. Qualified applicants must have completed a bachelor's or higher graduate degree in the 18 months prior to the program's commencement and must have demonstrated a commitment to excellence through academic honors, leadership ability, extracurricular activities and community/public service involvement. The program begins on the first weekday in August and ends on July 31st of the following year.

The Dunn Fellowship is an opportunity for recent graduates to obtain hands-on experience in state government, while obtaining tools for their future careers.

Dunn Fellows are paid $40,000 annually and receive full state benefits.

Internship Opportunities - U.S. Department of Transportation (DOT) - Office of Inspector General (OIG)

The U.S. Department of Transportation (DOT), Office of Inspector General (OIG) will be seeking applicants on https://www.usajobs.gov/ for Management and Program Analysts, Auditors, IT Specialists Pathways Interns with an annual salary beginning at $47,216.

Current students seeking a degree in a related field of study, such as public policy, law, political science, criminal justice, accounting, auditing, information technology, business administration, finance, or public administration are eligible to apply. Students must have at least a 2.7 cumulative GPA. 

This is for a summer internship. Interns will be expected to work during the summer of 2023 (not to exceed September 30, 2023 unless extended). This is a student internship opportunity under DOT Pathways Program. After successful completion of the program requirements, interns may be converted to a permanent appointment, although there is no guarantee of conversion. Extensions to this appointment may occur, although there is no guarantee of extension.

OIG works within DOT to promote efficiency and effectiveness, and prevent or stop waste, fraud and abuse in departmental programs. We do this through audits and investigations. OIG also consults with the Congress about programs in progress and proposed new laws and regulations. The Inspector General Act of 1978 gives OIG autonomy to do its work without interference. OIG carries out its mission by issuing audit reports, evaluations, management advisories, and other products with findings and recommendations to improve program delivery and performance. Pathways Interns will be entry-level analysts and work with OIG teams in a developmental capacity to conduct reviews of the efficiency and effectiveness of DOT programs or assist with criminal investigations. They will make key contributions to a variety of possible products, including audit reports, briefings to DOT leadership or congressional stakeholders, management advisories, and congressional testimonies.

The Congressional Black Caucus Foundation’s Pathways to C-Suite, State Farm Communications, and Walmart Emerging Leaders internship programs prepare college students and young professionals to become principled leaders, skilled policy analysts, and informed advocates by exposing them to the processes that develop national policies and implement them — from Capitol Hill to federal field offices.

Program participants receive housing, a stipend, office placements, and opportunities to meet and interact with professional legislators and leaders working in all branches of government.

Teaching Assistants - UIC Sociology Department

The UIC Sociology Department is looking to hire two 50% Teaching Assistants for Spring 2023. 

Each assistantship comes with a tuition waiver and partial coverage of fees and a monthly stipend of $2510.00 for 4.5 months. 

TAs will be required to attend in person classes, maintain 2 office hours a week, complete grading, and offer support to the instructor of the course.

Sociology 215: Sociology of Childhood and Youth
Tuesday and Thursday

This is an introductory level course that takes a sociological approach to the study of
youth and children. The goals of this course are to understand how life stages are
socially constructed and how the lived experiences of youth are influenced by the
intersections of varying identities and social locations as well as by social
institutions. Finally, the course examines social problems faced by youth at both
local and global levels.

Sociology 225: Race and Ethnic Relations
Tuesday and Thursday

Sociological and social-psychological analysis of racial, religious, and other ethnic
groups; consideration of historical and current social problems arising from their
relationships in society. Course Information: Same as AAST 225 and LALS 225.

Foreign Policy for America’s fellowship program offers a unique opportunity to help shape the future of American foreign policy. Fellows will gain hands on experience with foreign policy issues and advocacy, the politics of foreign policy, as well as non-profit management and administration. We are a tight knit, collaborative organization, and fellows should expect to work on substantial projects that contribute to achieving our mission. Fellows will work on the following areas of our work: Advocacy, Political, and Outreach, with one of these areas as their primary focus. 

Description: Foreign Policy for America (FP4A) is a national organization advocating for principled American engagement in the world. Together with our members and partners, we promote sound policies, hold elected officials accountable for their votes and actions, and help elect champions for our values. The Foreign Policy for America family of organizations includes FP Action Network, our federal political action committee, and Foreign Policy for America Foundation, our 501(c)(3) educational arm.

Responsibilities: Fellows play a central role in supporting our work and will work on the following areas of our work: Advocacy, Political, and Outreach.  Descriptions of each area, and associated responsibilities can be found on the application form.  

Requirements:
· Successful applicants will be enthusiastic, highly motivated individuals with strong academic backgrounds and interest in U.S. foreign policy and related politics.  
· Strong writing skills are a must.  
· Previous campaign or Capitol Hill experience is a plus.  
· Full-time availability is required. Exceptional candidates that can work full time or close to full time will be considered.   

Compensation: Fellows will receive a stipend of $5,400 for the semester.

National Poverty Fellows Program - Post Doctoral Fellowship

The Institute for Research on Poverty is calling for applications for six postdoctoral fellowships in the National Poverty Fellows Program for positions starting in late summer or early fall of 2023.

Fellows will be in residence in one of three federal offices within the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services. Currently we expect the following placements:

  • Fellowships are for one year, with the possibility of an extension for an additional year.
  • Compensation is around $92,000/year and includes health insurance.
  • Twenty percent of the fellows’ time is allotted to their own poverty- or inequality-related research.
  • Fellows will have an IRP academic research mentor and an outside policy mentor.
  • A $3,000 budget is provided that can be used to support conference travel, professional development opportunities, and research expenses.
  • Fellows receive support for two scholar-in-residence visits to IRP at the University of Wisconsin–Madison per year.

Advocacy Institute - Factory Farming Awareness Coalition - Virtual

FFAC’s Spring 2023 Advocacy Institute is a 16-week educational internship for college students. Interns will examine our food system’s impact on animals, climate change, biodiversity loss, social justice, and public health and make key contributions to institutional campaigns and to an overall cultural shift toward a more just, sustainable food system.

Interns in the Advocacy Institute will gain:

  • Exposure to a wide range of approaches to improving the food system

YOU’LL DO
  • Work in arcGIS to map survey questions and other publicly available data to be included in reports and inform our organizing work.
  • Work with our Data and Evaluation Manager to prepare reports, collect survey data, and other data collection as needed.
  • Attend weekly bike rides (summer) and weekly online bike forums (winter) and coordinate data entry at those events
  • Coordinate day-to-day data activities for transportation events, such as weekly bike rides, online forums, in-person town halls, and resident/business owner meetings
  • Assist in set up and planning of transportation events, such as weekly bike rides, online forums, in-person town halls, and resident/business owner meetings
  • Support Data and Evaluation Manager with other duties/tasks as needed
  • Community outreach to residents and stakeholders through surveying, focus groups and interviews; assisting with weekly community biking rides and discussions in person and online. Outreach will include working with Transit Ambassadors through phone calls, flyer distribution, and speaking about Northwest Center work during weekly bike rides and online formatting. Surveying will be over the phone or in-person through direct business visitations.
  • Represent NWC at external events, seminars, and networking functions as needed.
WORK ENVIRONMENT
  • Given the changing nature of work as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic, we have developed a comprehensive list of COVID-19 policies to prioritize keeping our community and team safe.
  • Our team is currently operating in a hybrid work environment that includes in-office and remote work. Schedules are arranged by position to maximize flexibility and the need of the position
  • This position operates primarily in an office environment that is fully accessible and routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, printers, copiers, filing cabinets, and fax machines.
  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to converse and exchange information, and will frequently need to move/traverse. The employee will operate office technology and equipment, and may occasionally move/transport objects up to 25-40 pounds.
  • The nature of our community-based work often involves evening and weekend obligations, and some travel to off-site locations in the Chicago metro area.

  • This position will require work on some evenings and weekends, schedule can vary depending on the needs of the agency
