PHILLIP D. PETERS REGIONAL PLANNING FELLOWSHIP 

2023 POSITION ANNOUNCEMENT 

The Chicago Metropolitan Agency for Planning (CMAP) and the Phillip D. Peters Regional Planning  Fellowship Board of Directors are pleased to announce the availability of a fellowship during the calendar  year 2023 to a qualified Master’s degree graduate student in urban and regional planning or a related field.  

The Phillip D. Peters Regional Planning Fellowship was established in 1999 to honor the late Phil Peters,  the former Executive Director of the Northeastern Illinois Planning Commission (NIPC)*. Phil retired in  1999 after completing more than thirty years of extraordinary service to NIPC, during which time he played  a major role in the development and implementation of the agency’s innovative, comprehensive, and  highly-regarded planning program for the Chicago metropolitan area. The fellowship reflects Phil’s  dedication to NIPC and his personal interest in promoting careers in regional planning.

The Village of Bartlett, IL (population 42,000), is seeking a summer intern to work within the Planning and Development Services Department on various planning, site plan and code enforcement related tasks.  The intern position is an excellent opportunity to gain professional experience in the areas of: current planning, zoning, land use, site plan, field inspection, database input, and code enforcement.  Job related tasks include: working with staff to prepare reports, assisting with preparing maps and graphics, performing field inspections, preparing building permit handouts, researching lighting and parking regulations for Zoning Code updates and other duties as assigned.

This is a temporary, full time position (35 hours per week, typically 8:30 am – 4:30 pm Monday-Friday).  The work assignment is for twelve weeks (mid-May to mid-August) and pays $14.00 per hour. 

Applicants working towards a graduate or undergraduate degree in Urban Planning, Geography, Landscape Architecture, or a related field are preferred.  Candidates much possess a valid driver’s license.

The Village of Riverside is seeking a responsible and energetic individual with a
genuine interest in public service for the position of Management Intern. The Village of Riverside is supportive of professional and personal development and encourages staff to approach problems with innovation, creativity, and compassion as they interact with residents, the business community, consultants and other village staff.
