Primary Purpose

Performs a variety of entry-level professional planning and management analyst tasks involving land use regulation and program and development services administration.

Supervision Received: 
 
Works under the direction of Deputy Director, and other Senior Mgt.


Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

Assists management and other staff with various research projects, report writing and presentations as assigned. Performs data collection and analysis, prepares memorandum and reports and creates presentations related to regulatory, operations and long-term planning initiatives.  Researches, compiles and analyzes data from multiple sources to provide information to address a number of current and long-range planning, development service and program matters.  

Prepares narrative reports regarding various land use, operations, strategic planning and program considerations.  Assists other staff in delivery and analysis of programmatic services related to affordable housing, permit services, regulatory board / commission, long-term planning, or other special projects / programs.  Assist management in the monitoring and analysis of operations and the development and implementation of new systems, procedures, or practices for the delivery of services. Make recommendations to management through presentations or written reports.

Other tasks include preforming routine office tasks, including data entry, electronic file management, copying and answering telephone. Assists with other administrative functions as needed. May conducts site visits to properties and collects information about field conditions.  May assists staff representatives during public participation events or public meetings. Performs other related work as assigned.

Who you are:

Vera generates ideas to transform justice systems and takes them to national scale. Following the completion of our strategic plan, we are expanding and formalizing our infrastructure for this multistage ideation and scaling process—which we call the Impact Pipeline. This staged process helps Vera staff generate ideas with potential for national impact, pilot those ideas, adapt and improve them, and evaluate their effectiveness.

The Fall Intern provides capacity support to the Innovation Department. This position will focus on desk research for new ideas placed on Vera's Impact Pipeline that have the potential to transform criminal legal/immigration systems at scale. The Fall Intern will work under the supervision of the Director of Innovation and Program Development and in close collaboration with the Innovation Senior Associate and Innovation Coordinator.

Schedule

The intern should be available to work up to 20 hours per week during the fall semester. The dates will be between September 19th and December 9th with some flexibility to accommodate personal and academic schedules.

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

Desk Research and synthesis

  • Conducting community and legislative landscape research, and synthesizing the outputs.
  • Drafting materials for meetings and workshops, including agendas, presentations, and activities.

Coordination and project management support

  • Managing timelines, coordinating meetings, workshops and other administrative support tasks as they relate to the innovation team.

Other Duties As Assigned

  • Assisting with other projects as they relate to innovation, design, and strategy.

What qualifications do you need?

Required:

  • Currently enrolled in an undergraduate or graduate program.
  • A demonstrated commitment to racial equity and social justice.
  • The ability to work both independently and with others efficiently and effectively.
  • Strong writing and communications skills.

Preferred:

  • Experience working with people who have been impacted by the US criminal legal or immigration system.

Compensation:

The compensation range for internships is $16.00 - $25.00, per hour. Actual compensation will vary depending on factors including but not limited to experience and performance. JOB PURPOSE  

Under general supervision, this position performs a variety of administrative and operational  tasks for the Village Manager's Office. Position Description 

The School of labor and Employment Relations at The University of Illinois invites applications  for the position of hourly Graduate Research Assistant (RA) with the Project for Middle Class  Renewal. The Project for Middle Class Renewal was established in the fall of 2015 with the goal  of promoting policy analysis, scholarly research, and scholar-practitioner exchanges on  employment related issues. RA will work exclusively on the Examining the Diversity of  Experience with the Federal Tax System across Race and Immigration Status project 

The position is part of a UIUC supported research study that examines how families understand  and navigate tax return filing, the barriers families encounter applying for and receiving family based tax credits, and how families spend their tax refunds. This aspect of the research has a particular focus on the experiences of Latiné/Hispanic immigrant families. The position involves  recruitment of study participants, conducting one-on-one interviews with participants, and  qualitative data analysis of interview data. While participants in the study will be from the  Chicagoland area, the work related to this position can be done virtually. Expected work hours  are between 10 to 15 hours a week, and work schedule is flexible. This is a 4-to-6-month position that begins as soon as possible.  

SPECIFIC DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES 

Recruitment of study participants 

Conduct semi-structured in-depth interviews with parents with children about their  experiences with the federal tax system (i.e. filing taxes and receiving tax funds) and the  Earned Income Tax Credit and Child Tax Credit. 

Collaborate with principal investigator on developing processes for coding interview data  and identifying emerging themes from the interviews.  

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:  

Minimum 3 years of experience working with and in immigrant and Latinx communities.  Bilingual (Written and Spoken) in Spanish and English.  

Experience conducting interviews or prior experience engaged in activities that  demonstrate ability to compassionately engage in one-on-one interviews. For example, 

experience doing community outreach, community organizing, individual capacity  building. 

Familiarity with Microsoft Word and Excel or similar spreadsheet application.  General knowledge of systems, policies and programs that impact families and children.  Possess a bachelor’s degree in Social Work, Latin American and Latino Studies, Gender  Studies, Sociology, Public Health, Urban Studies, Public Policy, or related field 

BENEFICIAL QUALIFICATIONS:  

Experience using Qualitative Data Analyses Software (e.q., Nvivo, MAXQDA, Dedoose,  Atlas.ti etc.)  

Experience working on a research team, managing qualitative datasets.  Knowledge of federal tax policy, specifically the Earned Income Tax Credit and Child  Tax Credit

 BLUE ECONOMY INTERN 

Overview: 

Current, Chicago’s water innovation hub, is leading the charge to create a globally significant inclusive blue economy here in Illinois. The Blue Economy Intern will provide essential support to deliver and implement Current’s inclusive blue economy strategy by developing and executing a suite of programs aimed at creating opportunity and growth in Illinois. These programs include workforce development, STEM education, entrepreneurship, and corporate water stewardship/ESG. As a member of a small team, this intern will also support Current staff in delivering major programs, pilots, and events focused on accelerating innovation and solving environmental challenges. 

Key responsibilities: 

• Work with Current's Program Builder to implement Current’s inclusive blue economy strategy, including activities like research, program development, partner management and more. 

• Support Current in broadly sharing the inclusive blue economy report through writing, events, social media, and other outlets. 

• Participate in convenings with regional partners to map out and develop workforce pathways and training programs for blue jobs. 

• Conduct research on corporate water stewardship and ESG to help Current create an industry leadership table and improve corporate engagement.

Our 11-week paid internship program gives interns hands-on experience working with various groups across multiple office locations within Comcast’s Central Division. As a member of the team, you will gain invaluable knowledge of the industry, be a part of our diverse and welcoming culture, and receive exposure to other areas of the business.

Role Overview

The Government Affairs Interns will assist full time project coordinators and managers on a variety of projects. As a government affairs intern, you should expect to assist with the coordination and management of Corporate Government Affairs programs, including working with other departments to gather relevant data and coordinate many of the Company's advocacy efforts. The role will be focused on helping to execute on significant projects within the business and will require exceptional organizational skills. This role is an exciting opportunity in a fast-paced environment that requires a 'customer-first' orientation to succeed.

  • Assist in development and presentation of materials for use by Company personnel in lobbying and outreach efforts
  • Create films, slides or other visual presentations and plans
  • Write promotional material, articles, updates for social media sites and coordinates press releases
  • Coordinate various tasks related to special community affairs programs
  • Other duties and responsibilities as assigned

Basic Qualifications/Requirements

  • Currently pursuing a bachelor’s degree from a United States-based college or university
  • Authorized to work in the United States of America
  • Ability to work a minimum of 35 hours per week over 11 weeks
  • Regular, consistent, and punctual attendance
  • Strong interest in the telecommunications, cable, and media industries
  • Ability to work independently and in group settings

Preferred Qualifications/Background

  • Prior business exposure through internships, work experiences, or campus organizations
  • Currently pursuing a major in Political Science, Public Relations, Communication, Journalism, or related fields
