The Illinois Housing Council (IHC) is excited to introduce its Emerging Leaders Internship Program as the next step in its Emerging Leaders Network, with the goal of growing and supporting diversity throughout Illinois’ affordable housing industry. With its new internship program, IHC aims to provide opportunities for underrepresented populations to learn more about the industry and develop a diverse pipeline of new affordable housing professionals.

The paid internship program will be 10 weeks during the summer. In addition to working at a Host Company, IHC will offer interns supplemental learning opportunities such as lunch-and-learns, trainings, and property tours.  IHC programming will be offered June 5 through August 11, 2023

IHC expects to have positions available for placement in areas such as real estate development, property management, finance, and/or policy. Skills interns can expect to gain will depend on the specific internship position and host company but may include: financial modeling and proformas; funding application; closings; community and resident engagement; design and construction management; asset and property management; and/or affordable housing policy.
