Graduate Research Assistant for Design and Communications
UIC Great Cities Institute (GCI) is seeking a graduate student Graduate Research Assistant (GRA)
for Summer 2023 whose primary responsibility will be to design flyers and outreach materials;
For design tasks, the GRA will work with GCI staff to design content and layout for a variety of
mediums. Duties for this role include:
• Creating original designs for flyers, informational brochures, pamphlets, event programs,and reports.• Producing graphics including data visualizations, maps, and infographics.• Assisting in the preparation of reports and presentations.
For social media and website related tasks, the GRA will assist GCI staff with creating website
content, creating social media posts, and assisting with event planning.
Duties for this role include:
• Curating content from GCI research and reports for publication onto the website.• Posting GCI news, events, blogs, and project updates on the website.• Creating social media posts and monitoring social media activity.
Required Qualifications:
• Strong written and verbal communications skills.• Strong design skills and experience with graphic design principles.• Experience with Adobe Creative Suite, especially InDesign and Photoshop.• Careful attention to detail.• Ability to work well in a team environment.• Experience with GISPreferred Qualifications:• Enrolled in the Master’s program in Urban Planning and Policy, Public Administration, orrelated field.• Experience designing, editing, proofreading, and formatting a variety of publicationmaterials.
This position is an on-campus graduate student Graduate Research Assistantship with tuition
waiver for 20 hours a week (50% appointment) with the possibility of renewal beyond Summer
2023. The expected start date is May 16, 2023
