Graduate Assistant Position: Academic Year 23-24 - Academic Professional Advisory Committee

Job Description: Provide administrative support to the Academic Professional Advisory Committee (APAC)

Overview: The mission of the committee is to provide for the orderly voicing of suggestions for the good the University, afford added recourse for the consideration of grievances, and furnish a channel for direct and concerted communication between the Academic Professional (AP) staff and the administrative officers of the University, its colleges, schools, institutes, divisions, and other administrative units on matters of interest or concern to the Academic Professional staff or any member of it.

The appointment period is August 16, 2023 to May 15, 2024. This 25% graduate assistantship is ten hours a week and qualifies for tuition and partial fee waiver as long as the conditions for the waiver are met and your program is eligible for waivers. The 2023-2024 monthly stipend is $1,302.22. Most of the duties can be fulfilled remotely. Attendance at face-to-face meetings or events, if applicable, may be required.

Responsibilities:

  • Take minutes at monthly meetings and disseminate minutes to APAC members.
  • Assist in scheduling monthly APAC meetings, as well as meetings between APAC members and other campus entities.
  • Facilitate communication between APAC members; between the Committee and other campus entities; between the Committee and other campus offices.
  • Provide administrative support to the APAC Professional Development Awards committee
  • Assist in updating content on the APAC website.
  • Maintain APAC listservs
  • Assist with special projects including sub-committee events and maintaining committee calendars & documents
  • Other duties as assigned

Requirements:

  • Must be a degree seeking graduate student at UIC in good academic standing and able to commit ten hours a week for the period of the appointment
  • Must be enrolled for a minimum of 8 credit hours for fall and spring semesters
  • Intermediate skill level using Microsoft Office Suite, Adobe Acrobat, and other software applications
  • Excellent communication skills –written and verbal
  • Able to work independently on many tasks at a given time
  • Organized and reliable
  • Must be able to attend APAC meetings (second Wednesday of each month, 12:00pm-2:00pm) and meetings of the Executive Committee: meetings are held virtually.
