Economic Development Internship - City of Calumet City

The City of Calumet City is offering (14-week, 8 hours per week) Community and Economic Development (CED) internships to College Students seeking to meet the volunteer, class credit, and/or internship requirements of their chosen majors within this field of study. Although the CED Internship Program is considered unpaid, students are provided with a $100 per week stipend ($12.50/hour). The 8 hours can be broken into two days per week.

Interns will work closely with staff of the Great Cities Institute to produce professional quality work for The City of Calumet City. The City’s CED Internship Programs are organized into four categories in order to build the capacity of its Community and Economic Development Departments:
1. Community and Business Outreach Internships
2. Economic Development and Technical internships:
3. Communications/Marketing internships
4. Public Policy Internships

The CED Internship Program helps to build the City’s professional capacity to bring new businesses, expand existing businesses, and enhance quality of life. And, the CED Internship Program provides professional experience to university/college graduating seniors and graduate students who attend local colleges and universities, and who have completed course work within this field of study or the related. Therefore, qualifying students work on intense research and complex projects as well as related field work.

At Calumet City, we are committed to offering students a meaningful professional experience. Interns work alongside elected officials and professional staff in providing significant research and technical support for a variety of projects. Interns have the opportunity to learn about economic development and the various tools, municipal marketing and websites, and communications and public policy through interactions with the Mayor, City Council, Department Heads, Municipal Legal experts, and professional staff.
