Community Development Intern, Village of Willmette

Who: Village of Wilmette

What: The Village of Wilmette is seeking an intern for an exciting new opportunity to become involved in the business development of the community. The intern will work an average of 20 hours per work during business hours at the Village Hall, 1200 Wilmette Avenue, Wilmette, IL. The Village Hall is open for business on Monday to Friday from 7:30am to 4:30pm.

The Metra Train Station is steps away from the building as well as available parking spaces for anyone driving to work. The Village has many new businesses and commercial development projects and recently began a rewrite of the Comprehensive Plan that is expected to last through 2023.


General Responsibilities

The Community Development intern will work under the general supervision of the Business Development Coordinator and will assist in performing a wide variety of community and business development functions, including customer service, mailings, data entry, research, plan reviews and surveys. This position will be responsible for following up with compliance on issued violations, and act as the liaison between businesses and village departments for service complaints (such as garbage pickup, utility services, and sidewalks). In addition, this position will help create social media content for WilmetteBiz and assist with the Compressive Plan by communicating between residents, businesses and consultant and other work tasks as assigned.

Position Requirements

The successful candidate will be enrolled in a Community Development, Urban Planning or a related college program and have an interest in pursuing a career in local government. The candidate must have a valid driver’s license, the ability to work in a fast-paced environment and strong customer service, communication and organizational skills. Working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook and Teams). Experience with graphic design software including Adobe Illustrator, Photoshop, and Acrobat Pro is a plus.

The successful candidate shall be fully vaccinated with the COVID-19 vaccine and shall provide their COVID-19 Vaccination Record Card which shall be retained by the Village.

Compensation

The wage is $17.63 per hour. There are no other fringe benefits associated with this position.
