Managers Office Administrative Intern - Village of Glenview

The Village of Glenview, IL is seeking candidates with a passion for public service for the part-time Administrative Intern position within the Village Managers Office. This entry-level position will be responsible for completing various special projects and assignments related to the day-to-day operations of the Village. Key functions of this role include:

  • Assist in the preparation and on-going support of the Management Services department budget.
  • Analyze existing and proposed policies/initiatives and develop recommendations for senior leadership team.
  • Provide outstanding customer service to citizens and other community stakeholders.
  • Assist with the preparation of Village Board meetings including assistance with staff report preparation and distribution.
  • Support the Village’s document management program including assisting in the review and development policies and procedures.
  • Provide as-needed support to Management Services divisions including Human Resources, Communications, Customer Service, and Finance.
  • Participate in meetings with senior staff and employees throughout the organization.
  • Completion of special projects as-needed across all Village departments.

Qualifications:
Enrollment in an undergraduate or graduate (preferred) program in public administration, public policy, urban planning, or a similar field is required. Pursuit of a career in local government is highly desired. The ideal candidate will serve in the position through the completion of their course work. Prior work experience should support the employee’s ability to perform effectively within a professional office environment and contribute to fulfilling the organization’s public service mission.

The ideal candidate will be able to demonstrate the ability to communicate information effectively, strong customer service skills, and a willingness to learn new things.

Schedule/Work location:
This position’s schedule is flexible based on the employee’s academic needs and is typically 20-24 hours per week. Hours can be increased to 40 per week during the summer if the employee’s schedule allows.

Salary/Benefits:
The starting salary position is $20 per hour and is qualified for IMRF. The Village is committed to supporting individuals starting their local government career and will also provide paid memberships to various professional development organizations and access to training opportunities. This position is non-exempt under FLSA. The position will remain open until filled with initial resume review starting April 5. Faxed, mailed or hand-delivered applications will not be accepted.
