Community Development Intern: Wilmette

Title: Community Development Intern
Type: Full Time / In Person
Location: Wilmette, IL
Pay: $19.61/hour

The Village of Wilmette is seeking a summer intern for general zoning, planning, and related community development tasks and projects. The intern will work an average of 40 hours per week during business hours at the Village Hall, 1200 Wilmette Avenue, Wilmette, IL. The Village Hall is open for business from 8:00am to 4:30pm on Monday to Friday. The Village Center, where the building is located, is accessible by Metra, CTA and on-site parking is available.

General Responsibilitie
The Community Development summer intern will work under the general supervision of the Director of Community Development and will assist in performing a wide variation of tasks. This position will assist with the adoption and implementation of the new Comprehensive Plan. The position will assist department staff by responding to resident inquiries in person, by phone, and by email. The position will have the opportunity learn about the boards and commissions staffed by the department, including analyzing requests, writing reports, and attending meetings, as well as working on special commission projects, such as historic preservation surveying. The position may assist with code enforcement, such as site visits to view the subject of complaints and other work-related tasks. 

Position Requirements 
The successful candidate will be enrolled in a Community Development, Urban Planning or a related college program and have an interest in pursuing a career in local government. The candidate must have a valid driver’s license, the ability to work in a fast-paced environment and strong customer service, communication, and organizational skills. Working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook, and Teams). Experience with graphic design software including Adobe Illustrator, Photoshop, and Acrobat Pro is a plus. 

Compensation 
The 2025 starting hourly rate is $19.61 and 8 hours of paid time off (PTO). After the initial 320 hours of time worked, an additional hour of PTO will be earned for every additional 40 hours worked.
