Community Affairs Intern - Illinois Housing Development Association

Who: Illinois Housing Development Association

What: The Community Affairs Department oversees a portfolio of funding programs for community revitalization and housing counseling efforts. The department coordinates with nonprofits and local governments and works with staff across IHDA departments to identify and provide input for the design of program initiatives all directed towards promoting and creating fiscally stable households and communities.

Affordable Housing Internship - UPholdings

Who: UPholdings is a housing development company based in Chicago, working across the country. UPholdings creates, operates, and sustains its properties through their development and operational lifecycle. Our portfolio includes a wide range of projects types, servicing different target populations, and varying communities. UPholdings portfolio includes 13 affordable multifamily properties (each consisting of 20-100 units), and currently has five (5) new properties under development. Our company employs ten (10) talented team members, each with expertise in affordable and supportive housing developments.

What: Interns will: (1) work closely with staff on various project management tasks, including compiling financing, due-diligence, compliance, and supportive documentation associated with existing, prospective, and under-development projects; (2) coordinate on-going project tasks with vendors, site managers, and contractors; (3) assist staff with office administrative duties, including tracking project finances, scheduling appointments, preparing outgoing document deliveries, and maintaining office supplies; and (4) special projects, as needed.

Internship - Oak Park Residence Corporation

Who: The Oak Park Residence Corporation (OPRC) is a community-based, non-profit housing development and management corporation. Its primary mission is to promote Oak Park as a racially diverse and economically balanced community by providing quality rental housing at an affordable price. OPRC carries out its mission principally by acquiring older apartment buildings, rehabilitating them into assets that contribute to their neighborhoods, and providing quality management services. Established in 1966, OPRC currently owns or manages over 1,000 units of rental housing.

What: We are seeking an intern to assist us in gathering, mapping, and analyzing data on the changing housing markets in Oak Park and the greater Chicago region. The intern will analyze submarkets where OPRC currently operates and where it may in the future, map our buildings against a variety of socio-economic indicators, conduct financial asset modeling of our buildings and prospective redevelopment and acquisition opportunities, and analyze data on OPRC tenants to examine patterns relative to the rest of the Village of Oak Park and to neighboring and comparable communities. We are seeking a graduate student with experience in conducting statistical, financial, and spatial analysis and knowledge of data sources such as the American Community Survey.
