Transit Scheduling Internship - Csched (Chicago)

Who: CSched is a team of consultants with extensive knowledge in scheduling public transit, bus and rail, as well as analyzing operational data with the help of the HASTUS scheduling software (developed by GIRO Inc.). CSched provides consulting services to public transit agencies, school boards and private operators throughout the United States and Canada, with additional clients spanning the globe. CSched’s services include assisting private operators in developing bid proposals, assisting agencies in developing route timetables and driver schedules, evaluating agencies’ current scheduling practices, and helping to improve the “streetability” of schedules in daily operations. CSched also provides smaller agencies with access to HASTUS through our HASTUS by CSched service.

What: CSched-USA is looking to hire an intern for summer 2019 at our office in Chicago, IL. Under CSched’s training and guidance, duties for the intern may include:
  • Assist in data entry of transit schedules in the HASTUS scheduling software
  • Use HASTUS software to generate reports and data exports
  • Assist CSched staff in data analysis related to running time, cost efficiency, service quality, or other metrics as needed on a project-by-project basis
  • Developing analytical tools using Microsoft Excel
  • The intern will be working in a small office environment, typically with one or two other CSched staff.

Qualifications: The ideal candidate is a 3rd-year undergraduate Bachelor student and/or pursuing a Master’s degree with a focus in transportation, operations research, and/or statistics. Other disciplines may be considered if the candidate has the right skills and strong interest in operational planning of transit services. The candidate should have strong mathematical, analytical and computer skills (including understanding of computer logic and experience using advanced Excel functions). Computer programming experience may be helpful but not specifically required. The candidate should also be proficient in both written and verbal communication in English. Since CSched has offices in Quebec (CANADA), fundamental communications skills in French are a plus, while not mandatory. Academically, the candidate should have at least a 3.0 Grade Point Average.
