GIS Intern - Village of Roselle, Illinois

The Village of Roselle is seeking self-motivated individuals with a positive work ethic to fill the position of GIS Intern, which is geared toward undergraduate and/or graduate level college students seeking to supplement their academic training and expand their professional knowledge and skills in the engineering and GIS fields.

The GIS Intern will be responsible for supporting the Public Works Department in a wide variety of GIS related functions including data collection of assets in the field, revisions and updates to existing GIS data based on plans and field conditions and general office work, such as scanning and filing. Work may involve assisting the engineering staff with review and interpretation of construction plans, utility investigation, preparing maps, research, other related tasks.

Applicants must be a full-time college student earning a degree in Civil Engineering, Construction Engineering, Environmental Engineering, Geography or a similar field and enrolled in school full-time for the fall of 2024 and able to provide documentation of enrollment at the time of hire.

The successful candidate shall have the ability to work in a fast-paced environment, strong customer service skills, excellent oral and written communication skills, knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel and ArcGIS are preferred.   Ability to interpret engineering plans and maps.  Working knowledge of basic civil engineering principles. Knowledge of general office skills and the ability to organize information is also important.  Position requires working both indoors and outdoors, occasionally in adverse weather conditions, and extensive walking.

Applicants must have a valid driver's license and at least 18 years of age at the time of hire.  The hours of this position are 7:30 a.m. – 4:00 p.m. The ability to lift up to 50 lbs is required.  If selected, successful completion of a pre-employment background check, driver’s license check, drug screen, physical evaluation are required.  

The salary is $15.00 - 18.00 per hour.  The candidate must be willing to commit to working from approximately mid-May to mid-August, with the option for some additional winter (break time) work as approved by the Village.  This position will work 40 hours per week, Monday through Friday.  The successful candidate must supply their own safety boots.
