Project Background

The National Certified Public Manager® Consortium (NCPMC), formed in 1979, establishes and preserves standards for the Certified Public Manager® (CPM) designation, which is a nationally accredited, comprehensive management development program specifically designed to prepare managers for careers in federal, state, local, tribal governments and in other organizations with a public purpose. Built upon seven management core competencies, the CPM designation is awarded to public sector employees who complete a required 300 hours of study through an accredited CPM program. The CPM program’s primary goal is to improve the performance of public sector managers and the organizational performance of state, local, tribal, and federal governments and other public-serving organizations. The GFRC has been approved by the Consortium Executive Council of the Board of Directors to develop the CPM program for the state of Illinois.
