Community Development Internship, Village of Libertyville, Illinois

 Community Development Summer Internship, Village of Libertyville, IL


The Village of Libertyville is offering a full-time summer internship position in its Community Development Department.  The Village of Libertyville has a population of approximately 20,490 and is located in Lake County about 50 minutes north of the City of Chicago.  This position will report to the Senior Planner but will have ample opportunities to work with the Community Development Department and Engineering Division.  The Community Development Department encompasses the following functions:  Planning and Zoning, Historic Preservation, Economic Development, Building, with Code Enforcement and Inspectional Services.  The intern will gain experience in these functional areas and will be involved with the variety of projects and duties, including, but not limited to:


  • Review implementation of the Comprehensive Plan.

  • Research unique bulk requirements for residential subdivisions

  • Update Variation and Special Use Permit data into GIS program.

  • Assist in the review of Zoning applications.

  • Enhance the Economic Development program.

  • General research and problem solving.

  • Occasional field work.


The successful candidate must be currently enrolled as a full time student in an undergraduate or graduate program majoring in Urban Planning, Geography, Economic Development, Public Administration or related fields.  The candidate must also have effective oral/written communication skills; excellent organizational and time management skills; ability to interact well with others; excellent computer skills and be proficient in Excel, Word, and Outlook; and have a valid driver’s license.


The hourly rate for this position will be $12 per hour depending on qualifications.


Work hours will be 7:30am – 4:30pm Monday through Friday.
