Transportation Equity Intern - Center for Neighborhood Technology (CNT)

Internship Description 

CNT is now seeking a part-time intern for early 2024 to assist with several clean and equitable transportation projects.

Internships are designed to expose students to a broad range of CNT’s activities, including data analysis, community engagement, air quality, and policy innovation. Existing CNT projects the intern may support include: 

  • Working with community-based organizations (CBOs) through the Transportation Equity Network (TEN) to advance city action in implementing bus priority corridors in disconnected communities; working with TEN in advancing community ownership of the vehicle electrification transition.
  • Advancing Equitable Transit-Oriented Development planning locally and nationally.
  • Supporting and evaluating community-based transportation security projects through the Mobility, Access, and Transportation Insecurity: Creating Links to Opportunity Program (MATI).
  • Illinois policy research around clean and equitable transportation-related legislation. 
Internships are individually crafted to reflect the interests of the individual. Prospective interns should get to know CNT in depth through our website prior to contacting us to know what programs and roles meet their current educational and experiential needs. 

CNT works closely with interns to ensure that they receive academic credit for internships, whenever possible. Interns should be enrolled in or recent graduates of an undergraduate or graduate program in a relevant field. 

Skills, Knowledge, and Abilities 

  • Commitment to CNT’s mission of equity, sustainability, resilience 
  • Good research, writing, and communication skills • Independent worker who is also able to work well with a team 
  • Accuracy and attention to detail 
  • Ability to meet deadlines and manage multiple, competing projects 
  • Education or interest in urban planning, urban issues, public policy, environmental science, social justice, social sciences, sustainability studies, civic analytics, or related field; or education or interest in a technical field like engineering, landscape architecture, or architecture paired with CNT’s commitment to equity and sustainability. 
Applicants who share an interest in transportation equity and sustainability are encouraged to apply regardless of meeting the listed skills, knowledge, and abilities. 

The selected intern will be compensated at a rate of $20 per hour and will be expected to work at least 10 - 20 hours per week, with more hours possible if desired. However, if interns are earning course credit through their educational institution, compensation will be provided by their school. CNT does not provide benefits for interns. This position is remote and open to applicants nationwide.
