Territory is young people building voice, vision and agency through the practice of design in our communities. Through Territory's design studio programs, young people practice urban design, public art and community planning in the neighborhoods where they live and learn. Through Territory’s apprenticeship design team model, young people find and amplify their voices to step up to lead, using design as a platform for civic engagement. Through Territory, young people develop the tools, resources, and power to transform their neighborhoods and the city.
What: The fellowship is a 3-month paid position, running mid-late May through August. The opportunity is a full time job with Territory, a combination of design studio facilitator and design program research and development. Throughout the fellowship, fellows gain various professional skills including fundraising, communication, program development, in a fast-paced, hands-on learning environment.
The fellow will:
- Serve as a hands-on facilitator directly responsible for a team of 15-20 Territory teens for Territory’s 6 week summer urban design studio program. Through the program teens are building leadership skills by doing activities including community outreach, mapping, leading a youth empowerment walking tour for our neighborhood, developing design proposals for interactive devices that invite community members to experience the city as a teenager, and collaborating with stakeholders, designers, and planners
- Create a cohesive system, focusing on documentation of the successful portions of curriculum, for implementation and expansion
- Create a data report for youth participation
- Attend pre-fellowship training retreat in Chicago, IL from May 20-25, 2019 (expenses covered)
- Fundraise $500 (with guidance from FLIA)
- Actively participate in weekly FLIA professional development responsibilities including check-in calls
- Write two blog articles
- Complete final report and video
