What: The Chamber, sole service provider for Special Service Area 27 (SSA 27), seeks a part-time urban planning intern who is interested in urban planning, economic development or public administration.The intern will gain hands-on experience collecting and utilizing data for economic development and planning purposes, with the goal of improving the Lakeview neighborhood. We offer a $1,000 stipend and will work with students on class credit.
Responsibilities include:
- Streetscape Assessment
- Gather data related to placemaking initiatives, through field observation.
- Identify locations where additional streetscape elements are needed.
- Assist with the permitting process for new streetscape elements.
- Storefront Census
- Update database of storefronts with current business tenants and vacancies within the service area, through field observation.
- Update wayfinding kiosks and online property listings based on the Storefront Census.
- Pedestrian Counts
- Update neighborhood pedestrian counts, through field observation.
- Summarize findings for use in attracting people and investment to the neighborhood.
- Placemaking
- Assist with programming public spaces to create a sense of place and community.
- Other tasks as assigned, and there is an opportunity to develop additional projects based on the intern’s interests and learning goals.
