Internship - City of Rolling Meadows, IL

Pay: $15-20/hour

The City of Rolling Meadows, Illinois is hosting a paid full-time internship this summer for current undergraduate students with an interest in public administration, city management, urban planning, and related fields.

Job Duties: The position is designed to prepare interns for a career in local government planning and administration. The Graduate Intern supports the activities of the City Manager’s office and the Community Development office and will have opportunities to experience and work with other City departments. The nature of the work is research, analysis, and special projects with particular emphasis in administration, planning, and community development. Strong communication, flexibility, and customer service is essential to the position. The duties of the Intern will vary depending on the Intern’s strengths and interests and the day-to-day business needs of the City. Some anticipated projects include:

  • Supporting the City’s legislative agenda, with an emphasis on proposal and review of City programs and services.
  • Supporting public information, communications, and outreach, including the City’s website (www.CityRM.org) and newsletter.
  • Supporting the City’s Environmental Committee and Planning and Zoning Commission. Interns with an urban planning background may have the opportunity to present during their tenure.
  • Assisting with the City’s annual budget, procurement, and other special projects.

Requirements: The Intern must meet one of the following criteria:

  • Currently enrolled as a full-time student pursuing a bachelor’s degree program, and has completed at least 2.5 years of coursework (~75 credit hours); or
  • Recent graduate with a bachelor’s degree within the last year.
