Urban Planning Intern - City of Park Ridge (Park Ridge, IL)

Title: Urban Planning Intern
Type: Internship, flexible duration, approx. 30 hours/week

This position will perform a variety of functions throughout the Community Preservation & Development
department. The Urban Planning Intern will work closely with building, health, and planning & zoning
professionals to expand knowledge of a variety of local government functions.

Essential Functions
• Attend and participate in meetings on a variety of subjects, offering suggestions and or insights
• Support CP&D staff in reporting and other data driven projects
• Assist in investigating complaints for potential municipal and zoning code violations
• Work with applicable colleagues on a variety of planning efforts, including studies, longrange plans, comprehensive plans, and zoning amendments
• Coordinate with planning staff in writing communications (emails, website updates, etc.)
• Provide general assistance on projects for Comprehensive Plan, Uptown Master Plan, Preservation Plan, and others
• Conduct basic office functions as needed, such as data entry, file management, and customer service
• Provide assistance with department operations including, but not limited to, management analyst type assignments in business process mapping
• Opportunity to present applicant cases to City Council and boards and commissions, such as Zoning Board of Appeals and the Planning & Zoning Commission
• All other duties as assigned.

Education, Experience, Licensing, and Certifications
• Be obtaining a bachelor’s degree or higher in Urban Planning, Land Use, Public Administration, or related field.
• Valid Driver’s License
