What: The internship will provide an experiential learning opportunity in major functional areas of local government: administration, finance, human resources, special events, communication and marketing. This position reports to the CAO/Village Administrator and/or Human Resources Manager, and will provide insight into working in the public sector. Specific responsibilities include:
- Coordinates research projects, performs data analysis and drafts professional reports for presentation to the management team or Village Board on various subjects.
- Assists with committee meetings including taking notes, organizing packets, and promoting employee events.
- Drafts and updates various employee communication pieces to reach various generational groups within the organization and outside of it such as newsletters, surveys/questionnaires, total compensation letters, and retirement packets.
- Assists in the auditing of documents and systems to ensure the Village’s compliance with federal and state regulations.
- Assists the Village Administrator in preparing the Administration Department budget.
- Assists with the development and implementation of a Village Strategic Plan.
- Assists with and participates in Village Board meetings, union negotiations, staff meetings and community-wide annual events.
- Assists in addressing incoming questions, complaints or requests from the public, other agencies or Village Board.
- Assist in the essential day to day operations of the Administration Department to learn of its broad aspects and issues.
- Helps with a marketing plan highlighting the benefits of working for the Village of Itasca including creating a profile for the Village on various websites, promoting the organization on social media, and improving the employment page on the Village website with dynamic content.
- Assists the Administration and Human Resources with transitioning to paperless processes which includes creating forms and developing workflow processes to streamline recruiting, onboarding and off boarding.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s Degree with an emphasis in Public Administration, Business Administration, Human Resources or closely related field.
- Requires acceptance/enrollment in a graduate program, preferably Public Administration.
- Ability to communicate in a clear and concise manner both verbally and in writing.
- Knowledge of municipal management and legislative process.
- Ability to perform research, interpret results and prepare professional report of findings.
- Knowledge of municipal budgeting process.
- Ability to prioritize work load and complete tasks with minimal supervision.
- Computer proficiency in Microsoft Office
Schedule: Flexible days and times based on student’s schedule, Monday through Friday during the hours of 8am-4:3-pm. Willing to coordinate with school for class credit.
The starting compensation for this positin is $15/hour.
