Graduate Assistant - Academic Professional Advisory Committee, UIC

Who: The Academic Professional Advisory Committee at UIC. The mission of the committee is to provide for the orderly voicing of suggestions for the good of the University, afford added recourse for the consideration of grievances, and furnish a channel for direct and concerted communication between the Academic Professional (AP) staff and the administrative officers of the University, its colleges, schools, institutes, divisions, and other administrative units on matters of interest or concern to the Academic Professional staff or any member of it. As advisors to the University Administration, we review policy, represent academic professionals on search committees, voice concerns regarding academic professionals to the Chancellor, and play an active role in professional development efforts at UIC.

What: Graduate Assistant to the Academic Professional Advisory Committee – 25% appointment for 9 months, 2018-2019. Responsibilities include:
  • Take notes at monthly meetings and disseminate minutes to Committee members.

  • Assist in scheduling monthly meetings of the Committee, as well as meetings between members of the Committee and other campus entities.

  • Facilitate communication between members; between the Committee and other campus entities; between the Committee and other campus offices.

  • Complete paperwork related to co-sponsorship of events and student activities, communicate with the Office of the Chancellor to reimburse sponsored groups and individuals.

  • Assist individuals and groups asking for sponsorship with the request process.

  • Assist in updating content on the website.

  • Maintain contact information on the Committee's many members-at-large.

  • Assist with special projects of the sub-committees.

  • Other tasks assigned by the chair. 

Qualifications:

  • Must be a graduate student at UIC in good standing and able to commit ten hours a week for the entire academic year

  • Familiar with Microsoft Office Suite and Adobe Dreamweaver and able to update and edit an existing website.

  • Excellent communication skills -written and verbal

  • Able to work independently on many tasks at a given time.

  • Organized and reliable, as this position requires keeping track of the coordinating meetings, communication with varying offices and organizations regarding sponsorship requests, and being the go-to person of the committee.

  • Able to attend APAC meetings (second Wednesday of each month, 12:30-2) and assorted APAC events. 

The GA is awarded a full tuition and partial fee waiver, as well as a stipend paid monthly over nine months.  The contract term goes from August 16,2018 to May 15, 2019.  This is a 25% graduate assistantship which requires working ten hours a week.
