The Administrative Intern is a part-time administrative position at the training level that provides support to the Village Administrator’s Office. The Village Administrator provides direct supervision. In addition, the Intern may work within other Village departments on projects that are found appropriate by the Village Administrator. These projects are assigned on a case-by-case basis and serve to increase the Intern’s exposure to local government. The Administrative Intern will also take part in meetings with senior staff and employees from throughout the organization on a variety of projects. While the Village will attempt to provide a general background in all areas of municipal management, the Intern’s primary focus and responsibility is in the Village Administrator’s office.

The Administrative Intern assists in the development, implementation, and analysis of available data using a variety of research tools to aid in the decision making of the organization.  The individual in this position receives regular direction from his/her direct supervisor; however, the individual must be able to work independently while coordinating tasks and projects with various departments. The position is budgeted for up to 950 hours per year with flexibility for a full-time student schedule.

What: The position requires knowledge, skill, and mental development equivalent to college level course work in public or business administration, political science, or a related field. No specific previous experience is required, but the Administrative Intern must possess interest in a future career in public administration, city management, personnel administration, a related field, and, preferably, be working towards an MPA degree. Any equivalent combination of training and experience that provides the requisite knowledge, abilities, and skills is required. Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Outlook, and Excel is preferred. Applicants should be working toward a bachelor's or master’s degree in public or business administration or a related field. Other requirements include: the ability to understand and interpret Village policies, procedures and ordinances; the ability to work within time constraints and to prioritize work; the ability to prepare plans, reports, and studies; being able to communicate effectively with the public at large. The applicant must have a valid driver’s license.
