Sustainability Committee Volunteer - UIC Campus Rec

What: Campus Rec at UIC, internal sustainability committee

What: The Sustainability Committee Student Volunteer will assist Campus Recreation’s professional staff to pursue external grant opportunities and with creating and marketing sustainability programs that support the work of student affairs and ultimately enhance the student experience at UIC. Key responsibilities include:
  • Attend all sustainability meetings throughout the FY19 academic year (once a month). 
  • Complete all assigned tasks by given deadline which is established during the sustainability meeting. 
  • Support sustainable programs and assist with tabling to increase student knowledge of programs. 
  • Assist in any grant writing and editing as needed. 
  • Research best practices of similar institutions for facility improvements, departmental functions, sustainability campaigns, etc. to identify areas for enhancement. 
  • Contribute to the conversation providing new, creative, and innovative ideas to the group. 
  • Respond to all email correspondence in a timely manner.
This individual will work alongside five (5) full-time Campus Recreation professionals who will provide ongoing support through the entire process. Additionally, there is potential for letters of recommendation, resume boosters, and publications on any grants completed.
Monthly meetings are estimated to be approximately 1 to 1.5 hours once a month (September – May).
Also, we predict approximately 5 additional hours of independent work depending on tasks acquired during the monthly meetings.

Qualifications: Have good working knowledge of subject, including the overall mission of greater social, economic and environmental sustainability in the campus community. Candidate with the College of Urban Planning and Public Affairs or similar field is preferred. Previous experience in a similar position is not required as long as you have the determination and passion in our UIC’s sustainability mission. Must demonstrate excellent time-management, communication (both verbal and non-verbal), and organizational skills while working on this committee. Furthermore, a cumulative GPA of 3.0 is highly recommended and flexibility in your academic/social calendar to attend meetings between the 9am – 5pm business day.
