Graduate Research Assistant for Data Analysis - Great Cities Institute

UIC Great Cities Institute (GCI) is seeking two Graduate Research Assistants (GRA) for Spring 2024
whose primary responsibility will be to support ongoing projects with data analysis tasks and creating
data visualizations.
For data analysis tasks, the GRA will work with GCI staff to:
  • Collect and clean datasets from publicly available and proprietary sources.
  • Conduct analysis including basic descriptive statistics, and spatial analysis.
  • Prepare research findings into data visualizations, maps, and infographics.
  • Assisting in the preparation of reports and presentations.
Required Qualifications:
  • Strong written and verbal communications skills.
  • Strong data analysis skills and experience with statistical software such as Stata, R, or SPSS.
  • Experience with spatial analysis using ArcGIS Pro or R.
  • Careful attention to detail.
  • Ability to work well in a team environment.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Enrolled in the Master’s program in Urban Planning and Policy, Civic Analytics, Public Administration, Public Policy, or related field.
  • Experience conducting data analysis for research projects and publications.
  • Experience producing data visualizations and maps for publications.
  • Experience with Census Bureau products.
This position is an on-campus graduate student Graduate Research Assistantship without a tuition
waiver for 20 hours a week (50% appointment) with the possibility of renewal beyond Spring 2024
with a tuition waiver. The expected start date is March 1st, 2024.
